Graduating Harpsichord Recital – In Retrospect: Echoes and Embellishments

In this recital, I invite the audience to experience a journey through the expressive possibilities of the harpsichord, focusing on how keyboard figuration evolved from Sweelinck’s late Renaissance chromaticism to Bach’s intricate Baroque dances. Rather than taking the familiar “Bach to Today” route, we’ll begin in the early 17th century to rediscover the origins of Baroque keyboard figuration, highlighting how each composer crafted a unique voice through ornamentation, improvisation, and rhythmic flexibility.
